How does it work?

Low moisture levels in the skin are caused by a natural lack of water or by an ongoing increase in a process called transepidermal water loss (TEWL).

Put simply, TEWL is the process of water within the skin rising to the surface and escaping. It’s a normal and healthy skin function; however, too much TEWL and skin becomes persistently low in moisture.

There are ultimately three ways that a moisturiser can solve this problem:

1. Increasing water content

2. Preventing the rise of water to the upper skin surface

3. Minimising evaporation

Humectants, Emollients, and Occlusives have these effects three effects, respectively.

Each one of these categories of ingredients will help to moisturise the Skin. Many moisturisers contain only two of the three, but for the greatest possible effect, H.E.O. Mask combines all three in an optimised ratio for synergistic hydration power.

The Medik8 research team developed the final ratio of humectants emollients and occlusives after trialling several different options, gathering instrumental data (using corneometry) and detailed user feedback to determine the optimum levels for overnight hydration.

This unique combination of gold standard moisturising ingredients can only be found in H.E.O.

The Treatment is a two-step process

1st Step

The humectants (water-soluble) are found in the First Step, the cooling blue gel that gifts skin with an immediate hydration boost.

Multi-weight hyaluronic acid can hold 1,000 times its own weight in water by drawing H2O molecules to itself like a magnet.

Glycerin, a natural humectant, is famed for its water-attracting properties.

Natural Moisturising Factors (N.M.F.s) including urea, amino acids and sodium P.C.A., work to bind and hold water in the skin, creating a reservoir of moisture in the upper layers of the skin.

2nd Step

Emollients (lipid/oil-based) and occlusives (water-repelling ingredients) are combined in the second step, which helps to “secure” the moisture from step one and improve ongoing hydration.

Ceramides, squalane and linoleic acid provide lipid nourishment to the skin barrier regulating cell function and improving the skin’s natural ability to retain water.

Primary occlusive dimethicone forms a breathable shield at the skin’s surface which helps to prevent evaporation and therefore transepidermal water loss (TEWL).

How to use the H.E.O Mask.

After cleansing, apply your Medik8 H.E.O Mask as the last step of your evening routine. Smooth an almond-sized amount of Step 1 of H.E.O. Mask over face, neck and décolletage, avoiding the eye area. Allow to absorb for a few minutes then gently massage another almond-sized amount of Step 2 of H.E.O. Mask into the same areas. Leave on overnight. Use 2-3 times a week or as required.
