The Number 1 Step For Great Skin: Cleansing!

Effective cleansing is an essential in your skincare routine. It's the first step! And unless you do it properly, all the other products in your skincare routine won't get the chance to work.

Improper cleansing leads to a multitude of skin problems, such as breakouts and sensitivity.

What does cleansing do?

The benefit of facial cleansing is the removal of dirt, oil, and other unwanted debris.

Throughout the day, the skin on your face is continually covered with dirt, pollution, oil build-up and dead skin cells. Allowing these to remain on the surface of your skin will clog your pores, which will then lead to breakouts.

Pollutants can impair the barrier, which can cause sensitivity. Dead skin cells will leave us looking dull and tired and not allow other skincare to be able to penetrate.

How often should I cleanse?

Everyday! Everyone should be cleansing their face once in the morning and twice at night every single day, no exceptions.

Believe it or not, your skin can accumulate environmental pollutants in your sleep, so it's necessary to wash them off in the morning as well. Dead skin cells and pollutants may collect on your pillowcase and be transferred to the skin throughout the night. On that note, it is essential, especially if you tend to have an oily skin type, that you wash your pillowcase regularly!

Now, at nighttime is when the skin is likely to be covered in makeup and grime, so for your night cleansing you do need to cleanse twice! Do not go to bed with makeup on - ever! Your skin will become a breeding ground for bacteria.

The first cleanse removes the makeup and grime accumulated during the day, and the second cleanse flushes the pores and allows the skin to breathe.

Always double cleanse - every single night. I swear by this.

Can I use soap to wash my face?

Please, please do not ever use soap on your face!

For dry skin types, soap will strip dry skin and cause even further dryness - leading to rashes, sensitivity and an impaired barrier, which can then cause premature skin ageing.

Using soap on oily skin types will make these skin types produce even more oil as the skin will be trying to combat what has been stripped away by the soap. This leads to congestion, dehydration and sensitivity. Say NO to soap!

What Cleanser should I use?

It would be best if you chose a cleanser according to your skin type, or your skin concern. It is so important to have a professional consultation so the correct product is prescribed for you.

Dry skin types tend to work best with milky or creamy cleansers.
