Skincare in Spring - Your Top #5 Tips

Spring has finally arrived, and the sun is shining! I'm glad to leave winter behind, but the question now is: is your skin and body spring ready?

I know my skin and body don't like the winter months. Extremely cold temperatures, windy and rainy days. The heaters are on consistently, so as the extremely hot showers. All these extremes have an impact on our skin by drawing moisture away and impairing the protective layer of the skin.

The harsh effects of winter can make the skin dry, tight, taut, flaky, scaly, irritated and red.

Here are my 5 top tips to get your skin spring ready!

1. Essential Fatty Acids (EFA's)

I highly recommend introducing essential fatty acids to your diet through the two main sources of Omega 3 - DHA and KPA. This will support cell membrane development and hence acid mantle creation and maintenance. This is an important step in treating dehydrated skin.

This will complement your skincare regime at home, but it works from the inside out.

The Skin Omegas+ is a complex omega 3 supplement containing fish oils and vitamin A. It is recommended for overall skin health and hydration, providing support for all skin types and is highly recommended for dry skin conditions.

2. Exfoliation

When the skin is dehydrated, our SCCEs (Stratum Corneum Chymotryptic Enzymes) become inactive (stop working) meaning our skin's natural desquamation process ceases, resulting in a build-up of unwanted corneocytes (skin cells that need to be exfoliated off)

The Bestow Body Brush detoxifies your skin. Dry brushing your skin each day encourages detoxification, stimulates circulation and promotes soft, smooth skin. The Bestow Body Brush is wooden and the bristles are made from natural fibres which stimulate the skin without irritating it.

3. Moisturise

Moisturising your skin is a vital step in any skincare regime and all skin types, even the oiliest skins.

Moisturising helps to lock in moisture, protect our skin from external aggressions, and stop pathogens from entering our skin and interrupting our moisture barrier function.

Our skin is our largest organ, so it needs to be protected every morning and night with a moisturiser.

4. Serums and Body Oil

Serums and body oils have a massive impact on our skin due to their ability to penetrate and deliver active ingredients to the deeper layers of the skin. This helps in binding moisture and preventing moisture loss.

5. Sun Protection

As the days are brighter, the UV rays are getting more damaging. The sun is the number one cause of ageing and dryness in our skin.
