How Can Exercise Help the Skin?

Exercising provides so many benefits for the skin! The rewards of exercising go far beyond slimming down or toning up. It can visibly revamp the body and mind in ways scientists are only beginning to uncover!

By increasing blood flow, exercise helps nourish skin cells. Blood carries oxygen and nutrients to working cells throughout the body, including the skin. Oxygen is crucial for the skin to function efficiently.

Sweating is also fantastic for the skin! When the pores dilate, sweat expels trapped dirt and oil, which in turn, helps clear congestion and the built-up dirt & grime. Just remember to always wash the skin after exercising, so all the dirt & grime don't end up back in the pores.

Exercising also helps to regulate inflammation by adjusting hormones that prevent free radical damage. This happens as the tiny arteries in the skin open up, allowing more blood to reach the skin’s surface and deliver nutrients that repair damage from the sun and environmental pollutants.

Finally we have the fact that exercise is known to help reduce stress levels. We all know how much stress can affect our bodies and our skin. Stress can cause flare-ups in several ways. It can cause excess oil production, which leads to breakouts; stress also causes redness and irritation in the skin, especially those who suffer from eczema and other skin conditions. Better management of stress & anxiety makes for all-round better health, which shows on our skin!

Never underestimate how moving your body can improve your skin and all other aspects of your body & mind!
