5 Tips to prepare your skin for winter

Let’s face it, days are getting shorter and nights getting colder - winter is coming. As you start to switch your wardrobe, it is also time to do the same with your skincare. There is no denying that in winter our skin suffers. While cooler temperatures and wind contribute to dull, dry and dehydrated skin, escaping to the warmth inside is just as bad, if not worse. All that heating (if you’re like me, the heater becomes your best friend) day and night creates a dry heat which means less moisture in the air and therefore our skin loses more moisture than usual.

While we can’t stop winter from coming, we can take some extra care to keep our skin looking healthy, soft, supple and glowy. So here are my 5 top tips to prepare your skin for winter.

#Bump up your moisturiser.

One of the easiest things you can do this winter is up your moisturiser formulation. Look for hydrating and healing properties such as hyaluronic acid, antioxidants, botanical extracts, lipid rich oils and shea butter.

A great go to is Societe Transforming Skin Complex. It contains 14 antioxidants, 3 vitamins and 16 plant sources all of which will help hydrate and protect your skin.

#Exfoliate.

Exfoliating 1-3 times per week will help keep that youthful glow which can often be lost during the winter months. Regular exfoliation will help remove dead skin cells and help maintain proper hydration.
For an exfoliator, I recommend PCA Daily exfoliant. Formulated with Aloe Vera, jojoba oil and biodegradable exfoliators, this unique product is gentle for use on all skin types.

#Boost.

Add a booster. With the lack of moisture in the air during the winter months, your skin can become dry and dehydrated, which causes all sorts of skin concerns like, redness, flaking, itching and breakouts. By adding a hydrating booster, you will help prevent your skin from dehydration.

Try out Medik8 Hydra8 B5 which has added natural moisturising factors alongside a potent triple-action hydration booster. This will recharge your skin’s internal moisture source.

#Protect.

Just a reminder - even though the sun may not seem as strong in winter, you are still susceptible to damaging UV rays. This is especially the case for those snow bunnies who are always outdoors, even in the winter! So stay protected with Aspect's Envirostat On The Go SPF50. It is a great light weight and non-greasy formulation that does not sweat off.

#Avoid hot showers.
I know long hot baths and showers make us feel so good in winter, but in reality it saps your skins natural oils. Aim for shorter showers. Not only will you save on water usage but it will save your skin from drying out.
